The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that Youghal Carpet (Yarns) Limited's measures for preparing cash pay packets be accepted by the Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union. The decision was signed on 3 February 1987. The company proposed that an outside security firm prepare the packets after discussions with Garda Siochana, citing staff safety. The union appealed, proposing other ways to reduce the time cash was kept on site and arguing that wages should be paid by cheque. It also raised concerns about moving clerical work outside the company and the effect on jobs. The Labour Court decided that the Rights Commissioner's recommendation should stand.
