In 1987, the Labour Court recommended bonus improvements for production workers at Johnson and Johnson (Ireland) Limited, alongside flexible breaks for the workforce. The recommendation was signed on 4 February 1987. The union had sought equal bonus rates for two groups of workers. The Court recommended the improvements and work-through breaks with flexible, staggered timings. Payment for staggering the morning break should cease, while a 30-minute lunch break should be paid at flat time rate. It also recommended that the union negotiate with management to establish a mutually acceptable downtime-monitoring system.
