The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner's recommendation on day work, pay and shift premiums for a general operative at Corrib Oil. In a decision dated 23 October 2008, it said day duty should be allocated according to his length of service, set his basic rate at €9 an hour from 11 June 2007 and €9.19 an hour from 1 February 2008, and set a 16.66% premium for hours worked outside 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, from 11 June 2007. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, appealed the recommendation. The union said requests for day work had been ignored, pay adjustments were late and the existing premium was too low. Corrib Oil said its pay was above the minimum wage and work arrangements reflected operational needs.
Labour Court sets €9.19 hourly rate and 16.66% premium for Corrib Oil worker
