Stephen and Karen Costello lose jury trial bid in harassment case

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Stephen Costello and Karen Costello lost their application for a jury trial in the High Court on 17 February 2017, in their civil harassment and intimidation case against the Garda Commissioner.

The couple sought damages and injunctions over alleged harassment, watching, intimidation, wrongful arrest and trespass by Garda members.

Mr Justice Keane refused the application, finding the proceedings had been appropriately listed for trial before a judge alone and that the delay in applying for a jury trial could not be excused.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
