Badruzzaman Masum released as he challenges sexual assault deportation

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Badruzzaman Masum was conditionally released by the High Court while challenging his deportation after a sexual assault conviction, in a ruling reported on 15 October 2026. He was sentenced to two years in prison at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 March 2025 for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old passenger in his taxi in Dublin.

The High Court granted Masum leave to seek judicial review of the making and notification of the deportation order. The judge ruled that time during which legal proceedings were underway did not count towards the eight-week aggregate limit for detention before deportation.

His conditional release requires him to surrender travel documents, live at a Dublin address and comply with requests from gardaí or immigration officials.
