Rafal Karaczyn pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife, Natalia Karaczyn. The alleged murder was at their family home in Crozon Park, Sligo, between 29 April and 1 May 2018.
The proceedings were reported on 26 February 2020. On that date, Natalia’s sister Magdalena McMorrow gave evidence at the Central Criminal Court.
Ms McMorrow told the court that, at Ballymote Garda Station on 2 May 2018, Karaczyn told her: “I did it, I did it.” She said he also told her that he and Natalia had argued in the early hours of 29 April.
The court heard that Karaczyn had previously told Ms McMorrow that people had threatened him and his children and demanded that he leave a window open so they could enter the house and hurt Natalia. She said he told her he had left the window open, then found Natalia dead and brought her body to a forest.
The trial continued before Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and a jury.
