Rafal Karaczyn pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife, Natalia Karaczyn. The charge alleged that the murder occurred at their family home in Crozon Park, Sligo, between 29 April and 1 May 2018.

The proceedings were reported on 27 February 2020. Natalia’s sister Magdalena McMorrow gave evidence at the Central Criminal Court on 26 February 2020.

McMorrow told the court that Karaczyn admitted killing Natalia while they were alone at Ballymote Garda Station on 2 May 2018. She said he told her that he had strangled Natalia during an argument and put her body in the boot of a car.

The court heard that Karaczyn had previously told McMorrow that people had threatened him and their children, and that he had left a window open for them to enter the house. McMorrow said he told her he later found Natalia dead and brought her body to a forest.

The trial was continuing before Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and a jury of seven women and five men.
