Thomas Wymbs fails in appeal against rape conviction

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Thomas Wymbs failed in his appeal against his rape conviction at the Court of Appeal on 28 July 2025.

The conviction arose from the rape of a guest at his Atlantic Haven B&B in Moneygold, Mount Temple, Co Sligo, between 22 and 23 February 2020.

Wymbs argued that the trial judge should have addressed the jury about comments in the prosecution closing speech and expert evidence on alcohol. The appeal court rejected those grounds, finding no deficient jury direction and no improper invitation to speculate.
