Former solicitor Michael Lynn was released on bail after the Circuit Criminal Court approved an independent €100,000 surety. The proceedings were reported on 21 June 2018.
Lynn faces 21 charges concerning the alleged theft of almost €30 million from seven financial institutions. He was due to go on trial in January 2020.
The High Court had refused bail, but the Court of Appeal overturned that decision and granted it subject to conditions. The Circuit Criminal Court heard that the €100,000 would remain frozen in a bank account until the trial concluded.
Judge Melanie Greally warned that the money could be at risk if Lynn did not attend his trial, or if the person providing the surety became aware of a breach of his bail conditions and did not inform gardaí. The person said she understood.
Lynn must observe a 9pm to 6am curfew at home, sign on daily at Leixlip Garda Station, stay away from ports and airports and not leave the jurisdiction. He undertook not to apply for a new passport; the court heard that his wife's passport and those of their children had been surrendered to gardaí.
