Michael Jones pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Hong Qing Qu. The proceedings were reported on 18 December 2018.

The collision happened at about 1am on 17 November 2015 near Blanchardstown shopping centre in west Dublin. It was alleged that Jones was driving an Audi A3 that broke a red light at speed and crashed into the side of a Mitsubishi Colt driven by Qu.

On day eight of the trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Garda Patrick McIlroy told the jury that he estimated the Audi had been travelling between 115km/h and 137km/h before the collision. He said the speed limit on roads in the area was 60km/h.

Garda Alex McDermott-Roe told the jury that Jones confirmed the Audi belonged to him but denied driving it at around 1am that morning. The trial was continuing before Judge Patricia Ryan and a jury.
