Keith Brady on trial for murder after manslaughter plea rejected

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Keith Brady was on trial for murder at the Central Criminal Court on 21 November 2017, after the State rejected his guilty plea to manslaughter. He had pleaded not guilty to murder over the death of Martin ‘Matt’ Kivlehan in Sligo on 2 or 3 August 2015.

The trial heard that Brady and his sister were allowed to meet in garda custody at Sligo Garda Station on 5 August 2015. A supervising garda said she told Brady to tell the truth during the meeting, which was described as highly unusual. The trial was continuing before Justice Paul McDermott and a jury.
