Keith Brady was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder at the Central Criminal Court on 18 November 2019, after being found guilty of killing musician Martin “Matt” Kivlehan. The murder happened at Mr Kivlehan’s home on Holborn Street, Sligo, on August 2nd or 3rd, 2015.

Brady, of Cartron Estate, Sligo, had denied the charge and had previously faced two trials for the same offence. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but the Director of Public Prosecutions rejected that plea. The jury reached its guilty verdict after about one hour and 25 minutes, while Mr Justice Alex Owens imposed the mandatory life sentence.

The court heard that Mr Kivlehan suffered fatal stab wounds. Brady’s defence had argued that he was too intoxicated to form an intention to kill or cause serious injury.
