Karina Cully was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 20 March 2023 for theft, forgery, deception in relation to a mortgage application and money laundering. The sentence was imposed by Judge Martin Nolan. The proceedings were reported on 20 March 2023. Cully pleaded guilty to the charges, which related to dates between 2014 and 2021. The report said she diverted €629,000 from her employer over more than seven years and spent it on lifestyle expenses including holidays and eating out. Defence submissions described the offending as a habit or addiction, and said Cully was disgusted with herself; she fully accepted that it was wrong. The judge took account of her early guilty pleas, full admissions and cooperation.
