Four men were convicted of sexually abusing their deaf relative after a Central Criminal Court jury completed its work on 10 June 2026. The jury could not agree verdicts on charges against two other men or on a further charge against one of the convicted men. None of the parties can be named for legal reasons.
The men had pleaded not guilty. The trial began in October 2025 before Ms Justice Caroline Biggs. Seven men originally faced 103 charges, but the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew 83 after the prosecution closed its case. All charges against one 34-year-old brother were withdrawn and he was free to go.
Accused C, a different brother aged 35, was convicted by majority verdicts of ten counts. On 9 June, the jury found him guilty of anally raping a younger sister, Complainant 3, when she was a child, between September 2010 and September 2014. The following day, it found him guilty of sexually assaulting another sister, Complainant 2, between 2005 and 2006 and raping her twice between 2015 and 2018. He was also found guilty of three counts of rape, two of anal rape and one of sexual assault against the main complainant between 2003 and 2010.
The jury convicted Accused B, an uncle, of three counts of rape and one of anal rape against the main complainant between 2006 and 2014. It found her brother Accused E guilty of two counts of anal rape between 2007 and 2009, and another brother, Accused F, guilty of rape during the same period.
Jurors could not agree on a further rape charge against Accused F or on rape charges against two uncles, Accused A and Accused G. The judge remanded the three convicted men present in custody for a sentence hearing the following month. She issued a bench warrant for Accused C, who was absent, and remanded the other two men pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
