Four men convicted in deaf relative abuse case; one brother missing as sentence hearing is delayed
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Four family members were convicted last month of a combined 13 counts of sexually abusing a deaf woman after an eight-month trial in the Central Criminal Court. The jury could not agree verdicts on two other uncles, and the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the two rape charges against them on July 13. Charges against another brother had been withdrawn during the trial.
The convicted men were the woman’s uncle and three younger half-brothers. One brother, Accused C, breached his bail conditions and was missing, so his sentence hearing could not proceed in his absence. Psychological reports for two other accused were not expected until October, and pleas in mitigation for the three men were set for a further hearing on October 19.
