Egidijus Stasaitis received a 20-month sentence, suspended in full, and a four-year driving disqualification. The proceedings were reported on 8 April 2025.

Stasaitis pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to dangerous driving causing serious harm. He had initially been charged with careless driving causing serious harm.

The collision occurred at Pinnock Hill on 25 September 2023. Stasaitis made an illegal right turn across a junction and struck a motorcyclist who had moved into a bus lane to pass a car. Garda Mark Gandola, who witnessed the collision, told the court the rider broke his pelvis, wrist, ankle and finger. He spent two and a half months in rehabilitation and still took painkillers almost daily.

Stasaitis remained at the scene and tested negative for intoxicants. He told gardaí he was impatient and had taken the illegal turn to get home quicker. He said he had not seen the motorcyclist.

Defence counsel Ronan O’Carroll said Stasaitis needed his car for work, had an unblemished driving history and had shown regret and remorse. He described his client's actions as a temporary lapse of judgement.

Judge Martin Nolan acknowledged the rider's serious injuries and said Stasaitis had crossed a double white line. Having viewed footage, the judge said the motorcyclist was travelling at excessive speed and had contributed to the situation. He said Stasaitis had not seen him and could be excused for failing to do so.

The sentence was suspended on condition that Stasaitis be of good behaviour for 20 months and enter into his own bond of €100.
