By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Izabella Aleksandrowicz was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to careless driving causing serious bodily harm to cyclist Andrew Brett. She was also disqualified from driving for two years.

The court heard that Brett was cycling in Dublin city centre when Aleksandrowicz made an illegal right turn and drove over him with both the front and rear wheels of her SUV. He suffered internal bleeding, liver damage and fractures to his ribs and pelvis.

Brett told the court he remained troubled by the sound of his bones breaking. He spent Christmas in hospital, could not return to competitive running, and continued to experience physical and emotional problems. The judge described the impact on him as devastating.
