This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Cyril Mullane was jailed for 13 years, with the final 18 months suspended, for rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court on 15 April 2024. The abuse took place at homes in Co Sligo and Norfolk, England.

A jury found Mullane guilty of 26 offences against his daughter Chloe between June 2011 and September 2016, when she was aged six to 12: 11 counts of oral rape, 14 of sexual assault and one of attempted rape. He had denied the charges.

In sentencing, Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo cited Chloe’s young age, the breach of trust and the prolonged period of abuse as aggravating factors. He noted Mullane had no serious previous convictions, but said the persistent offending meant he could not be considered a person of previously good character.
