Abdisalan Abdulkadir Yusuf was refused bail by the High Court on 14 December 2023 in proceedings over his extradition to Sweden, where he was convicted of attacking police during Quran-burning riot violence.
Justice Melanie Greally said the court considered him a significant flight risk, citing the sentence still to be served in Sweden and uncertainty about his passport. Yusuf was arrested at a petrol station in Dundalk, Co Louth, on 19 November under a European Arrest Warrant.
The warrant concerns one count of gross sabotage of emergency service activities and two counts of attempted gross violence against police officers in Sweden in April 2022. Yusuf was sentenced there to three years in prison in June 2023 and was released on bail before beginning that sentence.
The High Court remanded him in custody until 7 February for the full hearing on his surrender to Sweden.
