The Labour Court upheld a finding that Suzanne Dunne was not unfairly dismissed when her role as a branch manager in Carlow was made redundant. The determination was dated 17 August 2023. Dunne said she was unfairly selected after taking parental leave and that the alternative role offered to her was unsuitable. Matrix Recruitment Group Limited said declining business volumes in Carlow led it to make the role redundant and that it offered her alternative work. The Court accepted that the fall in business created a genuine redundancy situation and that it was reasonable to select the Carlow role. It found the offered job was unsuitable and Dunne was not unreasonable to decline it, but said shortcomings in consultation did not make the dismissal unfair.
