Labour Court recommends staged pay rises for Q Cafe Company workers

The Labour Court recommended pay increases for workers at Q Cafe Company, represented by MSS THE HR PEOPLE, who transferred from a client hospital in 2020: 1% from 1 June 2022 and 3% from 1 June 2023. It also recommended annual discussions on pay determination from 2024 onwards. The recommendation was signed on 17 August 2023. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought increases backdated to 2021 and a way to determine future pay, saying the workers had gone 15 years without a rise and were low paid. Q Cafe Company argued that the workers were paid more than its other employees and that retrospective increases would create difficulties, including uncertainty about whether the client hospital would cover the cost.
