World 2000 appeal fails over employment relationship

By Saoirse Doyle

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court found that Patrick Boland’s appeal failed because he could not establish that World 2000 employed him. It varied the adjudication officer’s decision, which had found his unfair dismissal complaint statute-barred. The Court said Mr Boland had to show that the named respondent employed him under the Unfair Dismissals Act. His representative could provide no evidence of that relationship beyond a collective agreement. Documents showed he had worked for VK Six Productions DAC, and he confirmed his final engagement there ended on 5 October 2018. The determination was signed on 12 August 2022.
