The Labour Court found Geraldine Dunne entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after Summeridge Limited appealed an earlier decision in her favour. In a determination dated 7 January 2021, the Court ruled that Dunne’s refusal to transfer to the Harbour Master Bar in Dublin 1 was reasonable because the added travel time and cost were disproportionate to her wages. Dunne had worked 15 hours over three days each week for €165 a week. Public transport to the new workplace would take about two and a half hours a day and cost €35.40 a week. Summeridge offered a €500 gross payment and a €500 voucher if she accepted the permanent transfer.
