The Labour Court has upheld the decision that Sarah Glynn was not entitled to an ambulance-grade shift allowance while redeployed to Covid swabbing. Its determination, dated 5 December 2023, found no breach of the Payment of Wages Act and said the appeal failed. Glynn, a paramedic, argued that her Covid swabbing roster qualified for the allowance. The HSE said the swabbing role did not involve rotating ambulance shifts and did not attract the payment. The Court agreed that she had been paid what was properly payable for the work she was doing.
