The Labour Court rejected Bob Schofield’s appeal against a decision that his Payment of Wages Act complaint against Finnstown Castle Hotel was not well founded. The determination was dated 4 April 2018. Schofield said the uniform cost and deductions were excessive and that he did not receive the uniform until after leaving his job. The hotel said the deductions were authorised by his employment contract. The Court found the contract authorised weekly deductions of €3, and that Schofield later authorised deductions of €30 a week in writing. It also found the final €69.50 deduction for the outstanding uniform balance was authorised. The Court found that none of the deductions breached the Act.
