The Labour Court recommended that Trinity College Dublin pay four security operatives €2,500 each to settle a long-running dispute over an acting-up allowance. The recommendation was dated 4 December 2019. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the restoration of the higher allowance and retrospective payment after management reduced it. The college said the approved rate was 5% of weekly basic pay after five full days covering for a superintendent. The Court noted the four workers had received the higher amount for about 14 years. It recommended €2,500 for each worker on the basis that they accept the 5% rate for five full days’ cover. The recommendation is in full and final settlement of the dispute.
