The Labour Court recommended that eligible Trinity College Dublin security operatives be allowed to opt for time off in lieu for bank-holiday work. The recommendation, dated 4 December 2019, excludes employees who started before 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the option for 10 security workers who received payment for bank-holiday shifts. Trinity College Dublin said it met its obligations by paying them and that the union had not proposed an alternative arrangement. Under the recommendation, covered staff would have to opt in to time off, with no choice between time off and payment. The time off would be taken on weekday day shifts, covered by the university’s contract partners and booked in advance. It would take effect if both parties accepted it and settle the dispute.
