The Labour Court recommended phased hourly pay increases for maintenance fitters at Aurivo Dairy Ingredients (Ballaghaderreen), following a dispute referred by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 April 2018. The union sought parity with site electricians, whose rate was €19.38 an hour. The company said its offer, combined with a general increase, could have raised the fitters’ pay by 14% over nine months, and warned that larger increases could affect the wider group. The Court recommended an increase of €1.50 an hour from 1 April 2017, followed by 70 cent an hour from 1 January 2018. It also recommended a full review in the first quarter of 2019, after the new systems had time to bed in.
