The Labour Court set aside an earlier recommendation after Tesco Ireland Limited appealed a worker’s claim for a 7.5% pay differential for covering Chargehand duties. The decision was dated 2 May 2017. The union said the differential continued to be paid to other workers after it ended for the claimant. Tesco said the Chargehand role had ended after a 2010 restructuring and the worker was paid under the applicable agreements. The Court found she was remunerated in line with the 2006 and 2010 collective agreements and found no basis for the union’s claim. It said her separate claim that she was working beyond her grade in the cash office should be dealt with separately.
