Labour Court recommends €5,000 each for Mayo council supervisors

The Labour Court recommended that Mayo County Council pay affected General Services Supervisors €5,000 each in full and final settlement of transition-period loss-of-earnings claims. The recommendation was signed on 15 December 2015. The dispute followed the introduction of one-person winter road-maintenance operations outside normal working hours. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the arrangements exposed workers to health and safety risks. The council said it had addressed concerns and that there was no evidence workers attended when instructed not to. The Court also recommended that the supervisors put their safety concerns in writing and that the council have them examined and addressed by a competent person. It noted that the agreement’s compensation formula applied to any loss of earnings arising from the restructuring.
