Labour Court recommends expert review of Shannon Airport supervisors’ work

The Labour Court recommended that Shannon Airport Authority (Saa) and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appoint an agreed expert to compare the work of three Passenger Screening Supervisors at Shannon Airport with that of comparators at Cork Airport. Both sides should be bound by the expert’s findings, the Court said in its recommendation signed on 13 June 2014. The union sought to upgrade the supervisors to Police Sergeant/Fire Station Officer grade, arguing their duties had increased and were comparable to roles at Cork Airport. Shannon Airport Authority (Saa) said internal and independent reviews found the role appropriately graded and remunerated. The Court described the claim as predating Shannon Airport’s establishment as an independent company and said the recommendation was not a precedent for future pay-relationship claims involving historical comparators.
