Labour Court backs Shannon Airport revalidation pay parity, does not recommend meeting-time claim

The Labour Court recommended that Shannon Airport Authority (Saa) bring Aerodrome Fire Officers’ revalidation payments into line with those in Dublin and Cork, finding merit in the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim. It did not recommend conceding the union’s separate claim for 12 hours’ time off in lieu for attending company and union meetings. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 2014. The union said the payment system produced inequities and sought parity. It also said time off for meetings on rest days had fallen from 12 hours to four since 2012. Shannon Airport Authority (Saa) rejected both claims. The Court said the meeting-time issue should be addressed in a broader context and expressed no view on its merits.
