The Labour Court recommended that Rosderra Meats compensate affected workers for lost earnings after production standards were revised and bonus payments fell. The recommendation was signed on 8 November 2011. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought compensation equal to twice each worker’s annual loss. Rosderra Meats said it could not afford the payment and feared it would lead to similar claims. The Court recommended compensation of 1.5 times each affected worker’s annual loss, paid in three equal phases. The first was due on acceptance of the recommendation; the second when the parties agreed measures to bring production costs to sustainable levels; and the third six months after that agreement, subject to both sides cooperating with its implementation.
