Labour Court gives transferred staff priority for work under Bord Gáis contract

The Labour Court recommended that suitably qualified staff transferred to GMC Civil and Mechanical Engineering Ltd have first call on work under Bord Gáis Eireann’s Period Contract 05/52 for the contract’s lifetime. The recommendation was signed on 26 March 2010. The dispute concerned the interpretation of a transfer agreement and the selection of workers for lay-off and redundancy. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that staff who transferred with the contract should not be displaced from its work; GMC Civil and Mechanical Engineering Ltd and Bord Gais Eireann were also parties to the agreement considered by the Court.
