The Labour Court recommended that Tegral Building Products’ ridge-tile moulders carry out additional priming work from the date proposed by the company. It said the work did not involve a major or significant change. The Court also recommended talks on flexible working arrangements that would preserve the 39-hour attendance requirement. The dispute arose after the company asked moulders to apply primer to address a tile-quality issue. The workers declined to do the extra work without extra pay, and the disagreement escalated into threats of suspension or lay-offs and industrial action. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union also proposed replacing an unpaid one-hour lunch break with two paid 20-minute breaks. The Labour Court recommendation was signed on 15 March 2010.
