The Labour Court recommended an ongoing annual allowance of €2,000 for Two Workers in their pay dispute with Shannon Foynes Port Company. The recommendation was signed on 28 July 2009. The workers, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, sought regrading and compensation, saying their terms had been undermined after a merger. The company said their roles were correctly graded and it could not accept a claim that increased costs. The Court did not decide the rights or wrongs of the dispute. It recommended modifying the company’s 2005 proposal to make the allowance part of normal remuneration, including for pensions and grade increases, backdated to 1 July 2008. Any other parts of the company’s offer not yet applied should also be implemented.
