In a recommendation signed on 28 July 2009, the Labour Court recommended that C + D Providers Ltd pay five workers an ex-gratia amount of one week's pay per year of service, in addition to the statutory redundancy payments already made. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union brought the claim for enhanced terms. The workers had been made redundant in early 2009 after a downturn in business. The union cited their long service and enhanced packages agreed elsewhere in the sector. The company said it expected to lose €2 million that year and could not afford additional payments.
