The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Sligo General Hospital management’s proposal for operating the hospital’s new MRI unit, with a three-year review. The recommendation was signed on 22 July 2009. The union wanted the unit run by hospital staff rather than outsourced to Euromedic Ltd. Management said it could not obtain approval for the additional staff and that funding from the private operator would help address the hospital’s financial difficulties. The Court said management’s proposal was the best way forward in the circumstances.
