The Labour Court recommended job evaluations to set staffing levels at Beamish & Crawford’s kegging and fork-lift areas, followed by renewed productivity talks. For workers who lost overtime, it recommended payment equivalent to two years’ lost earnings. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said staffing cuts needed members’ support and the company’s offer of one year’s lost earnings was too low. Beamish & Crawford said investment in machinery and roster changes could protect jobs and help avoid possible closure. The recommendation was signed on 16 April 2008.
