Labour Court rejects union appeal over Mayo County Council pay scale

The Labour Court upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation against a worker’s claim for the maximum point of the Deputy Foreman pay scale after promotion. The union’s appeal failed. The Court signed its decision on 16 April 2008. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, argued that his service and previous pay position entitled him to the maximum point. Mayo County Council said it had applied the correct scale. The Court found that the Deputy Foreman grade aligned with a craft grade for pay purposes and that the Council correctly applied the starting salary on promotion.
