Labour Court recommends 8.5% pay rise for JJ McCreery workers

The Labour Court recommended an 8.5% basic-pay increase from 1 July 2007, plus the company's €5 weekly attendance bonus offer, for workers covered by the Building and Allied Trades Union's claim against JJ McCreery Limited. The recommendation was signed on 5 July 2007. The union said the workers made furniture and fitted it at construction sites, and sought a rate between construction and furniture production grades. JJ McCreery Limited said the workers were employed in a factory and that higher pay would increase costs. The Court found no basis for comparison with the construction industry, but recommended improving the company's offer of a 6% increase and €5 a week on the attendance bonus.
