The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries Limited’s proposals on the grading of transferred ratings were reasonable and consistent with accepted practice on seniority. It also upheld the Seamen’s Union of Ireland’s position against a proposed buy-out of certain terms and conditions. The recommendation was dated 21 October 2005. The dispute followed the transfer of 23 former M.V. Normandy crew members to Irish Sea routes. The union said some were placed in lower-grade work and sought protection of their conditions. The company said it guaranteed no loss of earnings, not equivalent-grade posts.
