Labour Court recommends talks on buy-out of subsistence allowances at Irish Blood Transfusion Service

The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Blood Transfusion Service and the AGEMO, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Irish Medical Organisation, Medical Laboratory Scientists Association and Irish Nurses Organisation discuss a buy-out of subsistence allowances that were not authorised by Department of Finance circulars. The recommendation was signed on 18 October 2005. The allowances had stopped in January 2005 after Revenue instructed the service to comply with its requirements. The Court said the payments had become part of employees' conditions of employment and could not simply be withdrawn without agreement. It also recommended that discussions consider arrears due for the period between the allowances' discontinuance and agreement on a buy-out.
