The Labour Court recommended that St. John Of God and the Irish Nurses Organisation establish a joint working group to arrange for seven Clinical Nurse Specialist posts at St. Mary’s, Drumcar, to be filled within two years. The union sought implementation of the posts; management said it depended on Health Board funding and had no funds of its own. In a recommendation dated 15 September 2004, the Court said the posts were needed to protect staff health and safety and maintain patient care. It acknowledged that the Order depended on Health Board funding and recommended that the working group engage with funding agencies.
