In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that Sterile Technologies Ireland Ltd (S.T.I.) adjust its three-shift hours to achieve a 39-hour week and introduce a formal sick-pay scheme from 1 September. The recommendation was signed on 19 July. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union also sought a substantial pay increase and raised health and safety concerns. The Court did not recommend the pay increase, finding rates were in line with comparable industries. It found no evidence that the company was in breach of health and safety procedures and recommended practices be to the highest standard.
