In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that Wexford County Council not concede two claims brought by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on behalf of council workers. One claim sought a weekly subsistence allowance for refuse truck crews. The Court found no rationale to extend the drivers’ allowance to crew members, who already received an eating-on-site allowance. The other claim sought higher pay and subsistence and fuelling allowances for light-truck drivers. The Court accepted that they were correctly categorised as Light Equipment Operators and paid accordingly, and recommended that the claim not be conceded.
