The Labour Court recommended that Aer Lingus Shannon end its porterage service at Shannon Airport and increase the total compensation to £3,000. The recommendation was signed on 3 May 2001. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought to retain the service, which had operated for more than 50 years; the company wanted to discontinue it. The Court said porterage no longer formed part of an airline's function and recommended the facilitator's proposals as the basis for settling the dispute, with the increased compensation and collection of strollers ending as soon as possible.
