The Labour Court recommended new earnings and pensionable-pay terms for about 600 workers at An Post’s Dublin Mails Centre as part of a move to annualised hours. The recommendation was signed on 12 April 2001.

For 48-hour contracts, the Court recommended stable annual earnings of £29,300, with pro-rata earnings for 40- and 26-hour contracts. It recommended that £24,000 of stable earnings on 48-hour contracts be reckonable for pension purposes, with pro-rata arrangements for other contracts. These figures were in Irish pounds.

The Communications Workers Union had sought a £31,500 salary for a 47-hour contract, higher pensionable pay, lead-in payments and compensation for lost earnings. The Court did not recommend concession of the lead-in payment or loss-of-earnings claims. It also recommended a review of pension arrangements and said the union should cooperate with measures needed to meet targeted cost savings.
