The Labour Court did not recommend extending Cork Corporation’s occupational injury scheme to cover firefighters injured while travelling to or from work. It recommended that Cork Corporation and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet to agree a suitable definition of occupational injury. The recommendation was signed on 20 April 2000. The Court accepted Cork Corporation’s argument that firefighters faced no greater risk travelling to and from work than other employees.
