Labour Court recommended redundancy and part-time work for redeployed nurse

In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that the Southern Health Board offer a nurse voluntary redundancy and part-time work at another local hospital, where a 1 in 2 roster applied. The recommendation was dated 14 December. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union followed the nurse’s redeployment to Youghal Community Hospital. The union said she was the only permanent nurse on the ambulance service and sought to retain her former roster. The Board said the community hospital roster required work on two Sundays in every three and that a different arrangement for one person would affect other staff and resources. The Court recommended that the part-time hours, combined with her pension, maintain income at the equivalent of her full-time salary.
